Gracias y disculpas a Deepa Mehta; Cristina Nord; Jang  Joonhwan; Jean Perret; Jeong Jae-eun; y Anna Berthollet; Thomas Imbach; Savina Neirotti; Josh Siegel; Diana Tabakov; María Jacarilla; Lila Ribi; Sergio Fant; Pedro Fernandes Duarte; Simone Späni; Karim Sayad; Alessandro Stellino; Jia Zhao; Sophie Bourdon; Thierry Jobin; Martial Knaebel; Maëlle Guenegues; Mathias Noschia; Joanna Solecka; Stefan Ivancic; Myriam Sassine; Aline Schmid; Nicole Gillet; Claudia Maci; Gigi Pritzker; Patric Chiha; João Matos; y Víctor Iriarte.

TO ERR IS HUMAN

First of all, I want apologize not only on my behalf, as I am the Director of the Buenos Aires International Documentary Film Festival (Festival Internacional de Cine Documental de Buenos Aires, FIDBA) and, as such, I am absolutely responsible for everything that happens at the festival, but also on behalf of all the people who are part of said festival.

The event I am referring to occurred when announcing the winning films. Due to an involuntary error, we published the correct list of winners and a list of desirable jury candidates for the 2022 edition, in which we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the festival. As soon as we noticed the error, we corrected it.

We want to make a sincere public apology for the error to those who were affected. We hope that the people we admire—that is the reason why we put them on the list to be screened during our next September edition—, understand that, as we are a small organization, we work with several rotating and amateur teams. Everyone who participates in peripheral festivals knows that they are made thanks to cinema enthusiasts’ efforts.

Thanks and apologies to Deepa Mehta; Cristina Nord; Jang  Joonhwan; Jean Perret; Jeong Jae-eun; y Anna Berthollet; Thomas Imbach; Savina Neirotti; Josh Siegel; Diana Tabakov; María Jacarilla; Lila Ribi; Sergio Fant; Pedro Fernandes Duarte; Simone Späni; Karim Sayad; Alessandro Stellino; Jia Zhao; Sophie Bourdon; Thierry Jobin; Martial Knaebel; Maëlle Guenegues; Mathias Noschia; Joanna Solecka; Stefan Ivancic; Myriam Sassine; Aline Schmid; Nicole Gillet; Claudia Maci; Gigi Pritzker; Patric Chiha; João Matos; y Víctor Iriarte.

We also want to emphasize—before any suspicion—that this year the FIDBA does not have economic incentives since the entire budget (after several devaluations of the Argentine currency) has been invested in making a three-month online edition, and those of us who work in cinema know the complexities that entails.

We are a Festival with a meagre budget, which has not accepted the meagre contribution offered by the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts of Argentina (Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales, INCAA) and the National Ministry of Culture, as a form of protest against the national festival budget emptying policy that both institutions, in charge of Luis Puenzo and Tristan Bauer respectively, are carrying out.

Last but not least, we do not want to stop thanking the juries of our 9th edition, a luxury cast that was postponed by what happened and that worked with care and consciousness to choose what, according to their criteria, are the best films on our program.

As always, we believe that movies are the most important thing beyond any contingency. And they are the ones we will keep protecting.

Long live the Cinema of the Real.

I am available for whatever you may need.
